1. Memberships are a marathon, not a sprint.
2. You need to have a plan for each stage in the member life cycle.

1. Acquisition aka content marketing. Getting eyeballs on your biz and eventually getting them to sign up. 
2. Onboarding. Make sure the "new member" experience is F-ing amazing; help them get some early wins.
3. Engagement. They need a reason to stick around. If there's a clear ROI or real value, they'll stay.
4. Retention aka avoiding cancellations. Tip: don't worry, sometimes people leave because of issues that have nothing to do with you (don't burn bridges by getting upset).
5. Reactivation aka getting people back after they've cancelled.
